With Trump out of the picture, Huawei urges the UK to reconsider the 5G ban

With Donald Trump's defeat at the latest USA election, Joe Biden will be the next US President soon. While there are no plans announced on fixing the mess that Trump created over the few months, Huawei is now hoping that the United Kingdom can reconsider the ban on their 5G equipment.

In case you missed it, the UK officials made their decision to request all Huawei 5G equipment to be taken away by 2027. Some reports say that it was due to security purposes but there were also reports of being pressured by the Trump administration. With this, Huawei Vice President, Victor Zhang took an opportunity with The Guardian on saying the UK should revisit the ban.

In encouraging the UK officials, Zhang mentioned that they should not fall behind in the 5G era as they were the first to start the first Industrial Revolution so they should stay true to its roots (lol). He also thinks that being left behind in the upcoming 5G era will have "a huge economic impact on the UK", particularly the "investment between London, the south-east, the Midlands and the north of England".

For the rest of the interview, Zhang continued by stating how the UK could face "economic consequences" if left behind. While that may sound reasonable, I think some of the claims were quite exaggerated. Of course, Huawei would not want to lose a potential customer to use their technology and 5G-enabled smartphones, it's just business after all. But what do you think?
