Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has announced that 12 more Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology lanes will be added by PLUS Expressway Berhad by mid-April this year. This is following complaints by highway users that a lack of RFID lanes is causing congestion at toll plazas.

According to Bernama, Nanta asserted that the decision was reached at a meeting between him and representatives from Touch ’n Go Malaysia, Malaysian Highway Authority and PLUS Malaysia this morning. During the meeting, he also ordered action to be taken regarding safety issues that were raised by road users regarding the position of the RFID lanes in the changing toll booth which had caused accidents.

In regards to the lack of RFID lanes, Nanta said that the matter has caused bad congestion at toll plazas. The RFID system uses a radio frequency chip contained in a sticker affixed to a vehicle and will replace the role of a smart tag device (SmartTAG).
