Based on a statement made by China Mobile on Weibo on 16 March 2019, the People’s Liberation Army General Hospital, China Mobile and Huawei, has successfully conducted a remote brain surgery to treat Parkinson’s disease, which makes it the first remote surgery ever conducted on a 5G network.

Based on the report, it was said that the surgical doctor was stationed in Hainan while the patient is all the way in Beijing, which is about 3000km away. China Mobile has stated that these kinds of operations were only viable on the 5G due to the fact that the network has significantly higher bandwidth, higher stability and lower delay. Enabling the operator to react quickly whenever there is an issue, which is not entirely possible on the current 4G network. This is one of the many benefits that 5G brings us, with more to come in the near future.
