Microsoft has announced a major update to Xbox Game Pass, introducing price reductions across key tiers while making a significant change to how blockbuster titles are released on the platform. This even includes the Xbox PC Game Pass in Malaysia, which is back to RM20 per month from RM25 per month last year.

Monthly Prices Reduced for Ultimate and PC Tiers

Starting 21 April, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate now costs $22.99 per month, down from $29.99, while PC Game Pass drops to $13.99 from $16.49. The price adjustment is aimed at improving value for players following feedback that the service had become too expensive in recent months. Other tiers, including Essential and Premium, remain unchanged.

One of the biggest changes is the removal of day one access for future Call of Duty releases. Instead of launching on Game Pass immediately, new entries in the franchise will only be added around a year after release, typically during the following holiday season. Existing Call of Duty titles already available in the library will remain accessible to subscribers.

Core Benefits of Game Pass Remain Unchanged

Despite the changes, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate continues to offer access to hundreds of games across console, PC, and cloud. Subscribers still benefit from online multiplayer, Xbox Cloud Gaming, in-game perks, and a selection of day-one releases from other publishers and studios.

Alongside the pricing update, Microsoft is also rolling out a fresh batch of titles to the service. Upcoming additions include games like Kiln, Aphelion, and Final Fantasy V, many of which are launching as day-one releases for subscribers. At the same time, several older titles are scheduled to leave the platform by the end of April as part of the regular content rotation.

A Shift in Strategy to Balance Cost and Value

It was only recently that an internal memo leak mentioned Gaming Chief Asha Sharma admitted the Xbox Game Pass was too expensive. We didn't expect a change to be implemented so soon, but this is a good initiative by Microsoft. Meanwhile, the PC Game Pass trial in Malaysia is also back to RM5.00 for the first 14 days.
