Xbox could reveal its new handheld gaming console later in 2025

When it comes to Xbox, it feels like a third wheel behind Sony's PlayStation and Nintendo's Switch gaming consoles. However, the brand could still make a turnaround, as this new information about having a new handheld gaming console might be in the works.

According to Windows Central, Microsoft has been working with an unnamed PC gaming OEM (like ASUS, Acer, Lenovo and others) on a brand-new Xbox-branded handheld gaming console. If everything goes according to plan, then it could be released at a later date this year. Under the codename "Keenan", the design is said to have many cues from Xbox.

From the information given, the alleged Xbox gaming handheld console is probably tuned to be PC-oriented, with the Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass pre-installed. We can also expect the Xbox Game Bar widget and other settings to control fan speeds and TDP. Since Microsoft is working with a PC gaming OEM, the product could turn out something like the Lenovo Legion Go S series that is powered by SteamOS.

On the other hand, sources have been told that the new successor to the Xbox Series X and S is currently under development. Apparently, the next-gen Xbox consoles are slated for 2027, so that's still a long way to go. The UI is also said to be Windows-inspired and will support backward compatibility for older games. Also, we can also expect some AI functions since it's the trend now.

An Xbox handheld gaming console is certainly a long overdue device, but it is never too late. Until then, we shall wait and see how it turns out later this year.
