Xiaomi 14 series may miss out on a 1.33-inch sensor as the tech is still in development

Fresh from the release of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra in our country, rumours already abound about the company’s next flagship, the Xiaomi 14 series. Specifically, rumours are pointing to the upcoming device retaining a 1-inch sensor instead of a touted 1.33-inch one. 

This is according to renowned tipster Digital Chat Station who took to Weibo to reveal that the Xiaomi 14 series would be too early to get the 1.33-inch sensor. This is because the next-gen camera tech is currently in its research and development (R&D) phase. 

Hence, the Xiaomi 14 series will still retain the 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor first introduced in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. For a new standout camera in the smartphone space, Digital Chat Station said to look out for Nubia’s upcoming 35mm primary camera which exceeds a 1-inch sensor in some places.
