Yesterday, Xiaomi Malaysia announced the availability of the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra in Malaysia. There's no mention of the Pro and Pro Max models, but we expect those to be released eventually. In the meantime, here is a recap of what the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra can offer.
Xiaomi 17
As the base model, the Xiaomi 17 may not have the high-end photography capabilities of its Ultra counterpart. However, it still features a 50MP main camera, 50MP telephoto camera with 2.6x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. There's also a 50MP front camera, so you can snap really high-quality selfies.
Under the hood, the Xiaomi 17 houses a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of storage. This provides plenty of processing power for mobile games and other demanding apps (like AI chat), plus enough storage to store all your photos and images.
On top of that, the phone has a 6330mAh (typical capacity) battery and supports 100W HyperCharge. That's enough battery to play games for many hours, and a fast enough charge speed to ensure the battery is never low for too long.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is the model with features worth noting. Unlike the base model, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra replaces the 50MP telephoto camera with a 200MP periscope camera with up to 4.3x continuous optical zoom. Its ultrawide camera also offers a wider POV (115? vs 102?).
But like its predecessor, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra has an optional Photography Kit. For the new model, Xiaomi has designed a new version that's lighter and more compact than the last model. It also has a wrist strap, a customisable two-stage shutter, a dedicated video button, and an IP54 rating.
For dedicated smartphone photography enthusiasts, there's also a Photography Kit Pro. Not only does it feature a premium slip-resistant PU leather grip, but it also has a built-in 2000mAh battery to alleviate the battery drain on the phone. Moreover, the Pro variant comes with a detachable shutter button for customised ergonomics and a Fastshot mode.
Price and availability
The Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra are available for pre-order from 1 to 5 March 2026. As part of its 100th anniversary, Leica - a long partner of Xiaomi for its smartphone cameras - also announced the Xiaomi-made Leica Leitzphone. You can refer to the prices for the phones are in the table below.
