Xiaomi 17 series release - Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, 16GB RAM, up to 1TB storage and more from ~RM2661.96

Last night, the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max were officially launched as the first smartphones with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. So, what should you know about it?

For your information, all three devices are marketed as flagship devices with high processing capabilities paired with Leica camera systems.

The vanilla unit features a 6.3-inch AMOLED LTPO 120Hz main screen without a secondary screen. However, it does come with Dolby Vision display support.

This phone runs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM, up to 1TB UFS 4.1 storage and a 7000mAh battery that supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Besides the 6.3-inch AMOLED LTPO 120Hz screen and the secondary screen on the back, which is a 2.7-inch AMOLED 120Hz. This model shares the same specs as the Pro Max variant.

It also houses a 6300mAh battery, which supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Other specifications are the same as the 17 Pro Max model.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is the flagship model with a 6.9-inch AMOLED LTPO 120Hz main screen and a 2.9-inch AMOLED 120Hz secondary screen on the back.

Moreover, the main screen is flat with Dolby Vision display support. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip is paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM, up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage and a 7500mAh battery that supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Camera-wise, it sports a 50MP wide-angle, 50MP ultra-wide and 50MP telephoto with optical zoom up to 5X.

On the front, another 50MP sensor is used. The body of the device passes the IP68 standard and also has an ultrasonic under-screen fingerprint scanner, infrared emitter and audio speaker system.

 

Price listings

All three Xiaomi 17 phones are available for Chinese customers to preorder now, with a full release on September 27th. The price starts from ¥4499 (~RM2661.96) for the base unit, the Pro for ¥4999 (~RM2957.80), and the Pro Max for ¥5999 (~RM3549.47)

Unfortunately, there are no further details on the tech specs or the Malaysia release date for the Xiaomi 17 series. So, we should wait for more announcements from Xiaomi Malaysia
