The Xiaomi Mi 5X has finally been unveiled and just as everything we have reported, most of the speculated tech-specs were correct (except for the false 16MP front camera lol) and the price turns out to be lower than expected, which is 1499 Yuan (~RM950). Below is the official specifications:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 625
- 4GB of RAM
- 64GB internal storage
- Measures 155.4 x 75.8 x 7.3mm, weighs 165g
- 5.5-inch FHD display in 1920 x 1080 resolution
- 12MP (f/2.2) + 12MP (telephoto lens, f/2.6) rear camera sensor | 5MP front camera
- Features fingerprint scanner, dual-SIM (Nano), USB Type-C port, Beauty Mode
- Supports 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity
- MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat
- 3080mAh battery (5V/2A fast charging)
Now that we know the front camera is not is what it seemed, the dual rear camera setup gets the spotlight and the secondary camera is using a telephoto lens. Exactly like the Mi 6, the 2x lossless zoom and portrait mode is pre-installed in the Mi 5X as well. So there's that.

Next, the mid-ranger will be available in a full metal unibody in black, gold and rose pink. The antenna band design looks very much like the OPPO R11 and Apple iPhone 7 Plus. On top of that, there's also a DHS Audio Calibration Algorithm and a standalone audio amp, from the looks of it, this is obviously meant for improving the audio through your headphones and the Mi 5X's speakers. This is also the first Xiaomi phone with MIUI 9 operating system, so expect some funky new user interface too.
With the telephoto lens as the main highlight, this has to be the most affordable Xiaomi device that possesses it. Do you want this phone to come into Malaysia? Stay tuned for that while we wait for official confirmation from Xiaomi Malaysia at TechNave.com.
