Xiaomi have officially announced their Xiaomi Mi Max 3 at 1699 CNY (~RM1022) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version and at 1999 CNY (~RM1203) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version. Other leaked tech specs have been confirmed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset, 6.9-inch 18:9 aspect ratio FHD+ display and a 5500 mAh battery. No Malaysia release dates or pricing details yet but it will be available in black, blue and gold colours.

Offering the largest Mi Max screen to date, the Mi Max 3 does away with the capacitive navigation buttons on the bottom for a slightly narrowed fullview display body. Weighing in at 221g, it still uses a metal body with rounded edges and 12MP + 5MP dual-rear cameras with an 8MP front camera. The rear camera hump is slightly raised but the body is still quite thin at 7.99mm.

Due to the Snapdragon 636, the Mi Max 3 jumps onto the AI or Artificial Intelligence bandwagon with a number of AI-driven features. This includes AI scene recognition, face unlock, a voice assistant and more (possibly an AI-driven battery management system and others).

Thankfully, it still retains a 3.5mm audio jack but includes a new USB Type C port. It comes with MIUI 9.5 but can be updated to MIUI 11. We think it could come into Malaysia from RM1199 while the current Mi Max 2 could see an even more drastic price drop. Would you buy the 4GB RAM Mi Max 3 for that price?
