Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A officially revealed with a 16MP selfie sensor starting from ~RM449

Finally, after several weeks of teases, Xiaomi has revealed the latest Redmi Note 5A smartphone in China. It's available in three colours which are - Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver Gray and Rose Gold, and there will be three variants as well based on its memory. Below is the official specifications:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 (2GB +16GB model) / 435
  • 2GB / 3GB / 4GB RAM
  • 16GB/ 32GB / 64GB ROM (expandable memory available up to 128GB)
  • Measures 153 x 76.2 x 7.7 mm
  • 5.5-inch display at 720p
  • 13MP rear camera (f/2.2, PDAF) | 5MP front camera (f/2.0, only for the 2GB + 16GB model) / 16MP front camera (f/2.0)
  • Features fingerprint scanner (except the 2GB + 16GB model), Triple SIM slot tray (two nano slots and one microSD card slot), micro USB port]
  • MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat
  • 3080mAh battery

In terms of design, the Redmi Note 5A still looks more or less the same as its predecessor except that it no longers sports the 5-inch display and opts for 5.5-inch. It has also gone full-metal with a relocation of the speaker grill from the back to the bottom, and the LED flash sits on the right side of the rear camera.

On top of that, the 16MP front camera strongly hints that the device is aiming at the selfie lovers. Unfortunately, the 2GB + 16GB model does not get that. Despite that, all three models are granted split-screen multitasking, image search, and an AI assistant. Not bad for an entry-level tier phone.

For the price tag, it's really economical as per Xiaomi's tradition. Here are the prices below:

  • 2GB + 16GB - ¥699 (~RM449)
  • 3GB + 32GB - ¥899 (~RM578)
  • 4GB + 64GB - ¥1199 (~RM771)

Sales will start on Xiaomi's official website and JD.com tomorrow, we think it has a good chance of making its way to Malaysia shore too in the near future, so stay tuned for that at TechNave.com.
