An agreement between Microsoft and Xiaomi sees the two to cross license patents between them. At the same time Xiaomi will be preinstalling Microsoft apps such as Skype and Office into newly shipped devices come September.
Some of the devices that will be pre-installed with the Microsoft apps include the Xiaomi Mi 5, Xiaomi Mi Max, Xiaomi Mi 4s, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and the Xiaomi Redmi 3. The exact apps that will be pre-installed might vary by device, and will include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Skype.
This is a big win for both companies as Xiaomi is one step closer for easier entry into the western market whole Microsoft will have a nice foothold into the markets that Xiaomi are big, including China, and have better exposure to Microsoft apps by first time buyers.
