When Motorola re-introduced its Moto Razr last year, people who love clamshell phones like me were pretty excited. It's not a form factor you see often outside of Japan, but some manufacturers are working on them. After Motorola and Samsung, Xiaomi is the next that is allegedly working on a new foldable clamshell smartphone.

According to ZDNet Korea, Xiaomi has requested Samsung to provide them with foldable OLED displays of the clamshell type. It could be the same type of panel used for the Galaxy Z Flip, which suggests that Xiaomi intends to develop a similar smartphone. If this happens, this rumoured device will become the third one that features a foldable display in a clamshell design.

However, Samsung may look to prioritise its own needs for future Galaxy foldable devices and won't have enough panels to supply to other companies. In that case, Xiaomi could also choose to source the required foldable display panels from LG instead. Considering that LG has been supplying OLED panels to Xiaomi for TVs, this is a logical choice for the company.

As usual, this is an unconfirmed rumour so we advise you to take it with a pinch of salt. Having said that, I'm personally quite keen to see a more affordable clamshell foldable smartphone. What about you? Let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news like this.
