Chinese tech firm Xiaomi is reportedly preparing to unveil a budget-friendly tracking tag called Xiaomi Tag, likely priced below USD25 (~RM103), which could make it a strong contender against Apple AirTag and other tracker options. So, what should you know about it?

Xiaomi Tag is expected to debut at the company’s upcoming event on 26 December 2025, alongside the Xiaomi Watch 5 (or Watch S5) and Xiaomi Buds 6.

What we know so far

According to leaks from a known Weibo leaker, the product name is confirmed as “Xiaomi Tag.” The tracker is likely to support Ultra-Wideband (UWB), which enables more precise short-range locating, similar to the “precision finding” function that helps AirTag stand out.

Another significant feature is expected to be integration with Google Find My Device Network, meaning Android users may use nearby phones to help locate the tag, even when it is offline.

Moreover, by offering comparable tech with an attractive starting price, Xiaomi could shake up the tracker space, especially among Android users who have been waiting for a cheap but capable finder tag.

Expected tech specs for Xiaomi Tag

While full official specs are not yet available, these are the key expected features:

  • Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support for precise, short-range locating
  • Compatibility with Google Find My Device Network for offline tracking using nearby Android devices

What to watch out for

Moreover, there is still no confirmed pricing in ringgit (RM) yet, but if Xiaomi keeps the cost low below US$25, the device could be quite affordable for Malaysian users. Final price for Malaysia will depend on import costs, taxes and local retail markup.

Furthermore, until Xiaomi reveals full specifications, it is unclear whether the Tag will include other useful features such as a replaceable battery, waterproof build, or a loud alert buzzer, which often matter for item trackers.
