Although the first smartphone with an under-display camera has hit the market, smartphone manufacturers are still experimenting with different styles of pop-up cameras. Today, a patent from Xiaomi has surfaced showing a dual pop-up camera system that no one has ever seen before.

According to the source, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer filed the patent with CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) back in December 2019. The patent reveals two pop-up cameras with each housing two camera sensors. There will be two cameras facing the front and another facing the back. Without the camera modules, the smartphone looks clean on both front screen and back cover.

It is unclear how Xiaomi is going to bring the technology to a real-life device as it's considered a challenging task. The source mentioned that putting two camera sensors in one pop-up module will increase the weight of it. Therefore, it would require a more powerful motor to lift the module.
