We have written news about Xiaomi venturing into the automobile industry before. Initially, Xiaomi planned to reveal its first-ever electric vehicle (EV) in 2024 but there's a new report in Sina Tech that the Xiaomi EV prototype may appear very soon. How soon? Well, sometime in August by Xiaomi founder Lei Jun himself, if that's true.

According to the source, Lei Jun would personally launch the EV prototype in August and then have the team conduct a few tests (including a winter test). It seems the test will take more than a year, as it was reported that Xiaomi is planning to mass produce the first EV in 2024. Furthermore, the company is looking to get a new PR director soon which is in line with its launch plans.

Xiaomi has collaborated with HVST Automobile Design, who also helped design the WM Motor Maven concept car. There could be two segment EVs for their target audience - an A+ rated L2 and a B-rated L3 autonomous driving support starting from 150,000 Yuan (~RM99K) up to 300,000 Yuan (~RM198K).

Xiaomi has invested $1.5 billion into the EV business and would invest $10 billion more over the next 10 years. Under the name, Xiaomi Auto Co. Ltd, its HQ and R&D division are located in Yizhuang, Beijing with more than 1000 employees. It's capable of producing 30000 cars yearly. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
