If you want to play PC games on a portable device, handheld gaming PCs are the solution. Unfortunately, they aren't as affordable as Android tablets (most of the time). Enter Xiaomi WinPlay, a new platform that allows Xiaomi Android devices to play PC games.
According to Zhang Guoquan, Director of Xiaomi Mobile System Software, the WinPlay engine allows cross-platform compatibility with Windows games. Part of Xiaomi's Pengpai OS, WinPlay uses the operating system's Xiaomi HyperCore to run the games locally with "ultra-high performance and stability".
The director described what WinPlay does as virtualisation, meaning that it's essentially a Windows emulator. In other words, WinPlay will allow you to run different Windows applications and programmes, barring compatibility issues. The engine works with Steam, so PC gamers can download games from the biggest PC gaming platform. A Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro allegedly ran Tomb Raider on an average of 45fps, which isn't great but is at least playable.
With more powerful chipsets, the WinPlay engine could make PC gaming on Android tablets a reality. Perhaps we'll see Xiaomi release one with such capabilities sometime this year? Something to look forward to. Let us know what you think in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
