Once again, Xiaomi released another teaser video of the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Pro on its Weibo account. We previously talked about the secondary rear display before, and it has a name, dubbed the Magic Back Screen.
Functional and Stylish Design
The teaser confirms that this screen is built into the back panel, integrated with the camera module, allowing users to view time, battery level, notifications, and more. The rear display stretches around the dual-camera setup, with enough real estate to make it genuinely useful rather than just a gimmick.

It can also serve as a selfie viewfinder, letting users take self-portraits with the higher-quality rear cameras instead of the front-facing one. This recalls Xiaomi’s Mi 11 Ultra approach, but the new implementation looks larger and more capable.
Under the Hood: What Else Is Known
Beyond the rear display, leaks suggest that the Xiaomi 17 Pro and its Pro Max variant will run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The device is expected to feature a triple-camera setup with Leica optics, where the rear display will play a key role in enhancing the photography experience, especially for selfies captured with the main sensors.
Timing and Markets
The Xiaomi 17 series — which includes the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max — is set to launch in September 2025, with the teaser confirming a release this month. It remains unclear if Xiaomi will push for a simultaneous global release or prioritise the Chinese market first before expanding internationally.
