News of Xiaomi developing its own system-on-a-chip first broke in mid-2015 when the vice president of the processor manufacturer, Leadcore announced a partnership with Xiaomi. It looks like the partnership is finally starting to show results, as Xiaomi has officially announced that they’ll be unveiling its first in-house SoC, dubbed, “Pinecore” on 28th February.

While details regarding the chipset is a little scarce at the moment, Xiaomi will now be the second Chinese smartphone manufacturer (after Huawei) to produce its own SoC. In fact, only three other smartphone manufacturers in the world produce their own chipsets. Samsung, Apple and Huawei, respectively, produces the Exynos, A-series and Kirin chipsets.

Do note that “Pinecore” is not the official name for the chipset, and is merely a direct translation from the Chinese term. Guess we shall have to wait for more details to surface during the unveiling on 28th February then. Stay tuned on TechNave for further details regarding this interesting new development from Xiaomi soon.
