It's been a well-known fact that Xiaomi has started to focus on manufacturing electric vehicles (EVs). But during a meeting recently, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi said that Xiaomi Auto has been making good progress and mass production is expected to begin in the first half of 2024.

According to sources, Xiaomi has already invested more than 3 billion Yuan (~RM1.9 billion) into the automobile business. The research and development (R&D) team has also grown to over 2300 staff and about 17 billion Yuan (~RM10 billion) was spent on R&D last year. For this year, Lei Jun plans to invest more than 20 billion Yuan (~RM12.9 billion) and at least 100 billion Yuan (~RM64.5 billion) in the next five years.

EVs are becoming more popular and Malaysia is slowly adapting to them. So far, current automobile brands such as Mercedez and GWM have been launching a few EVs of their own, and GoCar is actively promoting GoEV Car Sharing rates as well as adding more locations for the public. Even Apple is reportedly looking to get into the automobile industry.

We are still pretty far from seeing what a Xiaomi EV could offer, but have you been riding one by yourself? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
