Xiaomi will slow down charging of devices with unofficial replacement batteries

It's not something you're told, but some shops sell you unauthorised/unofficial replacement batteries. Some people go for those when fixing up their smartphones, just to save some money. But what if some brands like Xiaomi will make it inconvenient for you?

According to XDA Developers, the Xiaomi Mi Security app is getting upgraded to version 5.6.0. With the update, the app now shows you a warning if it detects a fake battery. The message will mention that the battery should "only be replaced by an authorized service provider". It will also lower the charging speed, though funny enough that might actually be beneficial for these fake batteries.

However, this functionality isn't going to be widely implemented. At least not yet. An APK teardown for the Mi Security app reveals that the two functions are applied only to the Xiaomi Mi 9, Mi 10, and Mi 10 Pro in China. But Xiaomi could eventually make it a universal function across all its devices globally.

So it's clear that Xiaomi wants you to use official batteries, but will such a simple measure stop people from using these unauthorised batteries? Probably not. Anyway, stay tuned to TechNave if you are interested in more news like this.
