While many smart TVs now offer awesomely huge displays, they aren't very portable. This is why portable projectors like the Yaber T2 Plus still have a place in the world for presentations or movies on the go.
Featuring native FHD 1080p resolution, built-in speakers with Dolby and JBL-enhanced sound, a built-in battery, and wireless connectivity you can use with your phone, the Yaber T2 Plus comes at a surprisingly affordable price of RM1799 (for an FHD projector). Is this the portable projector for you? Find out in our review below.
The Yaber T2 Plus projector uses an upright design
It has Dolby JBL speakers
The autofocus and auto keystone sensors are located at the front bottom
Going for a modern, minimalist design, the Yaber T2 Plus looks like it was made for those who like to go camping with its bucket-like handle that doubles as an angle adjuster. Weighing in at 2.5kg, it doesn't look like most traditional projectors with its tall upright design, rounded corners and canvas upper. But it does look stylish enough to fit most situations. The handle is stiff and rigid so that the projector stays stable. But due to the design, you have to angle it a certain amount, or the handle will cover the autofocus sensor.
On top of the projector is a single power button, plus an RJ-45 LAN port, HDMI port, USB Type-A port and 3.5mm audio jack near the back. On the bottom, there's a standard VESA mount, so you can keep this projector permanently affixed either upside down or on a stand. On the bottom front and back, there's mesh for ventilation. If your phone has NFC connectivity, you can also tap the top near the power button to connect more easily with the Yaber app.

For controls, you will mostly use the small remote control, which has a typical directional pad, volume controls and a mute button. Additionally, there are dedicated buttons for Netflix, Disney+, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video. There's also a Google Assistant button for voice controls. Since this is the Plus version, it also comes with a wireless dongle, which is basically a separate Android box in a stick. To use this dongle, you'll have to stick it into the only HDMI port with the bundled adapter, but at least now it can cast wirelessly from your other devices.
Powering on the device, the auto keystone and autofocus work surprisingly well, intelligently making a near-perfect flat screen at almost any angle. It's also smart enough to let you know if the device is not angled correctly. But if you don't put it at the correct distance (at least 1.1 meters) everything is a blur and you won't even see the reminder. The initial interface is that of the projector itself. But if you use this menu, you will learn that it can't connect to non-WPA networks.

To get around this, you can change your WiFi router security settings… or you can just plug in the aforementioned dongle, which does work with non-WPA networks. You will have to set it up separately though. Ours was initially in Chinese, which seemed frustrating. But after a while of stumbling through the Settings menu, we successfully changed the language to English. After that, connecting to YouTube and so forth was a breeze.
For the most part, the 450 ANSI lumens lamp is more than bright enough with clear colours and relatively sharp details. Video playback was smooth while the Dolby JBL speakers were clear with nice bass and strong volume. We were able to connect Samsung DeX as well, but it got a bit laggy when we tried using the mouse. While the Yaber T2 Plus has a power cable, it also has built-in batteries that allow you to listen to music for up to 18 hours. For video playback, it can handle 2.5 hours or less than that if you hike up the brightness. There's a slight hum for the fan, but it's not much louder than that of a room ceiling fan.

Great for watching movies on the go
With the bundled dongle, you could just bring your phone and turn it into a hotspot while streaming whatever documents or media you want. However, wired connections like the HDMI cable and USB port didn't work at all. Perhaps it only works with certain USB drives or laptops. But based on our testing, this issue makes the Yaber T2 Plus rather unsuitable as a professional projector since most execs use laptops for their work.
Overall, the Yaber T2 Plus Projector has a lot of potential as a portable large display device, especially if you want to travel light but still want to enjoy smooth FHD movies. Its solid-sounding speakers are a good bonus but we would have liked it more if it could handle HDMI and USB connectivity better. The gap between the projector's menu and the dongle's menu can also be confusing at first. But once you get past this, it's a very good FHD portable projector.
Given its RM1799 price tag and rather low ANSI lumens brightness, its main strengths are the FHD resolution, solid speakers and smart autofocus/auto keystone features. Within the same price range, there are other more traditional alternatives like the Acer X1228i projector with wireless connectivity and 4500 ANSI lumens brightness. However, its lower 800 x 600 resolution is a bit of a dealbreaker for some users.
If you're just looking for a projector to bring camping or glamping with you, then the Yaber T2 Plus projector should fit most of your larger display needs. What do you think?
