Are you surprised that Yahoo is still around? Well, they are still here to stay but it was officially announced that Yahoo Groups will shut down on 15 December 2020. Verizon, an American telco that bought the company three years ago, is also planning to take down groups.yahoo.com website offline for real and for good.
Obviously, this shouldn't come as a surprise as there are plenty of other popular online group platforms such as Reddit, Facebook, Google and others. That may be the case, but Verizon also played a role in "killing" the Yahoo Groups on last October by disallowing users to create new discussions, as well as deleting all the users' past contents on 14 December 2019.
With the new announcement, Verizon also said that Yahoo Groups users can't even create new groups (lol) so only the email function will work until then. It's kinda weird for the company to shut it down but we guess that they are not seeing any profits and progress, so it was only natural to shut it down and save their expense.
