Earlier this year, WhatsApp made a serious blooper about explaining its new privacy policy which allows Facebook and Instagram to display ads that might be relevant to you. Many users didn't like that and have jumped ship to other platforms ever since. WhatsApp has since then made some changes in its Terms and Service and Privacy Policy about how the user's data is collected and shared.

According to the latest update, WhatsApp said that users will be able to talk to more businesses on the platform but it's also optional. Because thousands and millions of users would flock and ask questions, some businesses may use Facebook to respond to messages automatically. WhatsApp will clearly label chats if that happens and users have the choice to chat or block and remove them from your contact list.

Besides that, WhatsApp is also providing a clearer picture of how your data is being used. The team said that they have added more details and new sections in the Privacy Policy so to simplify it, you can actually request your account information via the app. Just go to Settings > Account > Request account info, then tap on Request Report. It takes 3 days to prepare.

Due to the blooper earlier this year, the WhatsApp team is also assuring that the privacy and security of your personal chats with friends and family haven't "changed". Although it kind of contradicts the first announcement, they claim neither themselves nor Facebook can see the content we chat with our contacts.
