You will be able to send HD photos through WhatsApp in the future

Sending photos and videos through WhatsApp may not always be the best solution due to its compressed file quality. However, the WhatsApp team is going to change that by integrating a new feature that sends HD photos.

As you can see in the screenshot below, the HD toggle option will be available at the top (beside the cropping option) before sending the image. Although it looks like the image's original file quality will be preserved, it's reported that light compression will still be applied. Users can choose either the Standard or HD Quality.

Then for the screenshot on the right side, images being sent in HD will show the HD tag at the bottom left. That being said, WABetaInfo reported that an HD video is not possible for good reasons, as the file size can be too huge to send over. So in other words, this only applies to sending photos (but is inapplicable for status updates)

According to WABetaInfo, the new feature will be in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.11.0.76 update from the TestFlight app, whereas the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.12.13 update from the Google Play Store. We will have to wait a bit longer before the new update rolls out to everyone globally.
