By now, you should have heard about Daydream VR which is part of Google's I/O 2016 highlights. During the presentation, Clay Bavor mentioned how Google is redesigning several of their in-house apps with an interface just for virtual reality, one of them was, of course, YouTube and this is how the Youtube VR app will look like in the Daydream headset.
In the YouTube VR app, it was reported to look polished and the UI pops up in front when the video is playing. Other features such as the toolbar, 360 Video, Subscription, and Accounts are included as well, along with the standard progress indicator and play/pause, forward/backwards, and volume buttons. For searching videos, though, user will have to use voice command resulting a personalized discovery recommendations and playlists of VR videos.
As a VR app, all YouTube videos will be playable in full 3D mode including regular 16 x 9 videos with the support of 360-degree video, VR video, and Spatial Audio from the network. With this technology, YouTube partnered with several creators, including the NBA, BuzzFeed, and Tastemade, to explore ways to tell stories in virtual environments.
Lastly, in the near future, YouTube creators will get to access to the VR Jump cameras announced at last year’s I/O. YouTube Spaces around the world will be equipped with the VR cameras later this year. Stay tuned for more news at Technave.com.
