YouTube has revealed that it will be introducing custom global emotes for comments and live chats on the platform. Called YouTube Emotes, the feature is similar to the one popularised by the Amazon-owned live streaming platform Twitch.

Announced via an official blog post, the company said that YouTube Emotes is perfect for “the times where words just aren’t enough”. Moreover, the platform said that it will be starting with emotes for Gaming but more types of emotes are coming soon.

The first batch of YouTube Emotes was made by three independent illustrators and is focused on live gaming content on YouTube, though it can work on any type of channel. To use the emotes, users have to click on the smiling face icon in the comments or a live chat.

If users have a membership to a channel that offers its own custom emoji, they will see YouTube’s global emotes below that. Besides that, just like on Twitch, users can also type the name of a specific YouTube Emote in chat and autocomplete will show any matching emotes that users can use.
