YouTube has been around for a long time and has long dominated the video content market. But when TikTok showed up, it changed the dynamics of the game and people started to flock to the platform. Well, it looks like YouTube is ready to take the fight to TikTok with the creation of its version of short-form videos called Shorts.

According to The Information (via The Verge), YouTube plans to release Shorts by the end of 2020. Instead of a new app, Shorts will be a feature added to the YouTube mobile app instead, allowing content creators to use the platform's large database of content. In other words, you will be able to use licensed music, songs, and soundtracks found on YouTube to make your short videos.

The fact that YouTube has decided to do this is no surprise at all. TikTok has seen a massive surge in usage in 2019, with over 1.5 billion total downloads and 800 million active users globally. It's very popular among youngsters, who often find the type of videos available on the platform to be funny or entertaining.
