Parents can now control the YouTube Shorts scrolling time limit settings for their teens, from 15 minutes to two hours , with a zero-minute option coming soon. So, what should you know about it?
Your children will not be able to change these settings
According to YouTube, children and teens cannot change or turn off this time limit setting on their accounts. Plus, parents managing supervised accounts can set custom Bedtime and Take a Break reminders , in addition to existing wellness protections that are automatically enabled for teens.
These are the latest features for parental controls:
- Control over the "Scroll": Parents can now limit how long teens spend on YouTube Shorts. You can even set the limit to zero during exam weeks or homework hours, and increase it during weekends or road trips.
- Better Recommendations: YouTube is implementing a new blueprint for high-quality teen content, including new principles and a creator guide. This helps steer teens toward content that is enriching and fun, while minimising low-quality distractions.
- Peace of Mind: A simplified sign-up and account-switching experience makes it easier to ensure your child is always in the correct, protected profile.
In the coming weeks, YouTube will also be introducing an updated sign-up page . It will allow parents to create new child accounts and easily switch between accounts in the mobile app, depending on who is watching. Moreover, this broader parental control feature is in line with similar moves on other social media platforms, with the aim of ensuring children's accounts are more controlled and safe.
