Google’s online video sharing and social media platform YouTube is now offering TV streaming service too, but with a twist. Get this, you can stream up to 4000 episodes of TV for free, but you’ll be interrupted with ads the whole time.

Seems like a fair compromise, don’t you think? Also, isn’t this just exactly what a conventional TV channel is anyway, only with an extra step and the convenience of picking what show to watch?

Announced by YouTube through a blogpost titled ‘Stream full seasons of TV for free on YouTube’, the feature is currently only available in the United States. Among the shows available for free streaming on YouTube are Hell’s Kitchen, Heartland, Andromeda and more.

Furthermore, YouTube also said that they have over 1500 movies for free streaming from various distributers, inlcuding Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate and more. Among the standout movie titles coming to the platform are Gone in Sixty Seconds, Runaway Bride and Legally Blonde.

Besides that, YouTube also said that it is unveiling a brand new streamlined navigation and immersive banner art. The rich visuals and new menus allegedly helps users to easily find their favorite TV shows from the comfort of the couch.

Unfortunately, YouTube has not revealed any plans to expand the service outside of the United States just yet, which is a bummer for us Malaysians. Well, there’s always VPN I guess?
