With iPhones, Apple makes you pay a hefty premium for more storage. For instance, the base 128GB iPhone 15 Pro costs RM5499 in Malaysia, but the 512GB variant retails at a whopping RM6999. That's an increase of more than 20%! But what if you could get an upgrade for less?

Battery company KingSener proved you could manually upgrade the storage of an iPhone 15 Pro from 128GB to 512GB. Of course, that's assuming you have the skilled hands to pull off the procedure. As you can see in the video, it requires removing the display and some components inside to get to the NAND flash storage, which is soldered to the phone's motherboard.

Shockingly, the technician decided the 128GB NAND needed to commit unalive and CNC'ed it out of existence instead of just desoldering it. After thorough cleaning, a new 512GB NAND flash was installed on the motherboard. Now, we're not sure if the procedure attempted was the correct method or if KingSener just wanted to do so (for shock value or something). Regardless, the installation ended in a success.

While it's interesting, there are a few things to consider if you want to do the same. First, the technician doing this must have the tools to perform the upgrade. They also must have the required skill level and steady hands to pull it off. Lastly, the fee for the upgrade must be significantly less than RM1500 to justify it. If not, you might as well buy the higher storage variant.
