In an effort to prevent increased scams and spam on YouTube Shorts, YouTube will be taking action soon to make links in Shorts comments, descriptions and live feeds unclickable. It will begin on 13 August 2023, to further prevent users from harmful content and malware.

According to YouTube, the team is planning to launch a new and safer way for creators to link their Shorts to other YouTube content 'by the end of September'. Besides that, clickable social media icons from channel banners on YouTube desktops will be removed, which is a problem for creators because it allows them to guide viewers to their accounts on other platforms.

To solve that, YouTube will launch a new space on channel profiles to put clickable links to websites, social profiles, merch sites and others. As long as it complies with the platform’s Community Guidelines, then it should work fine. This new update is scheduled to arrive from 23 August onwards and will be placed near the subscribe button.

The spam links in the comments in various YouTube videos are an issue over the years, especially when scammers pretend to be someone else and trick viewers to surrender some of their personal information. It's about time that YouTube is doing something for the community to prevent further damage in the future.
