YouTube will hide the dislike count from now onwards

Whenever a YouTube channel does something wrong, it will inevitably get a ton of dislikes such as the recent YouTube rewinds and the latest Shin Megami Tensei V video game review by IGN (yes, they messed up again lol). However, it has brought attention to YouTube about the dislike button and from now onwards, the dislike count will be private across the platform.

So...yeah, you won't be able to view the count of dislikes anymore on any YouTube video. The reason why the team is doing the change is that they "want to create an inclusive and respectful environment where creators have the opportunity to succeed and feel safe to express themselves". In other words, they want to protect creators from harassment.

Prior to this, YouTube did a social experiment on the impact of removing the dislike button. The team found out that when the count was not visible, commenters were less likely to dislike the video as well as reducing the dislike attacking behaviour. Moreover, smaller creators or beginners seem to encounter this a lot according to YouTube.

The dislike count will be invisible but not to the creators if they analyse the video in YouTube Studio. On that note, YouTube knows that many of us won't agree with the decision but they believe it's the right thing to do. YouTube also said the dislike button will remain here to stay.

You may still see the dislike button on any YouTube video for now, but the update is gradually rolling out today. What do you think of this? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
