Based on a statement by threatpost.com, it seems that there is a flaw on WhatsApp which causes the user’s phone number to show up on Google search. Not only that, WhatsApp users will not be able to stop their phone numbers to show up via the wa.me domain, which is also owned by Facebook.
Furthermore, a researcher by the name of Jayaram mentioned that Google managed to indexed up to 300000 phone numbers which can then be sold to marketers, spammers, as well as scammers. However, this is not the first time an issue like this came up due to the fact that there was a separate issue where the invite links for private WhatsApp group showed up on Google search which allows any user to join and interact in.
