If you frequently use ad-blockers to bypass Youtube ads, this news might surprise you. Recently, Youtube launched a global effort to counter ad-blockers. That said, what should you know about it?
For your information, Youtube has doubled on their effort to crackdown ad-blockers as of late. A lot of Youtube users reported they have received warning asking them to turn off ad blockers and watch ads. Either that or pay $14 (RM17.90) for a YouTube Premium subscription.
In addition, Google searches for ad-blockers increased drastically since 10 October 2023. This could be a knee-jerk reaction to Youtube’s efforts. Plus, searches for other terms like “YouTube ad block” and “YouTube adblocker” have seen a significant rise.
Besides that, ad-blocking services have also been on the rise lately, with many Chrome extensions offering the same feature. However, most of these extensions are ineffective. You can also risk being caught as a violator of YouTube’s anti-ad blocker policy. According to Youtube’s support page:
“When you block YouTube ads, you violate YouTube’s Terms of Service. If you use ad blockers, we’ll ask you to allow ads on YouTube or sign up for YouTube Premium. If you continue to use ad blockers, we may block your video playback,”
We have yet to confirm other details on this subject, we also feel that is unlikely for Youtube to soften their stance on this matter. At this point, we advise everyone to be responsible while streaming online.
