foodpanda Malaysia has officially launched pandasafe, a nationwide safety initiative designed to protect and empower its delivery partners through a permanent, data-driven safety ecosystem. The programme was unveiled at foodpanda’s headquarters and officiated by Malaysia’s Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke, who praised the initiative as a bold step forward in supporting the country’s gig economy workforce.

Strategic Partnerships

Unlike seasonal campaigns, pandasafe is built as a long-term operational commitment. It integrates education, technology, behavioural science, and financial literacy to create a holistic framework for rider wellbeing. According to foodpanda Malaysia Managing Director Tan Ming Luk, the initiative reflects a permanent shift in how the company supports its riders, embedding safety into every aspect of its operations.

pandasafe is powered by a coalition of public and private sector partners, including Allianz Malaysia, Hong Leong Bank, PERKESO, and Hong Leong Yamaha Motor. Each partner contributes to a specific safety touchpoint:

  • Allianz Malaysia provides First Response and CPR training
  • PERKESO leads P-Hailing Safety Induction and social protection education
  • Hong Leong Yamaha Motor supports defensive riding and braking skills training
  • Hong Leong Bank delivers financial literacy workshops to help riders manage income and plan for long-term financial well-being

Training and a New Standard for Gig Worker Safety

The initiative also includes structured rider training, telematics tools to monitor riding habits, and road safety modules—all designed to reduce risk and build confidence on the road. Riders will be equipped not just with knowledge, but with practical tools to respond to emergencies and make safer decisions daily.

YB Anthony Loke emphasised that the safety of delivery partners must be treated as a national priority. He commended foodpanda and its partners for going beyond awareness and setting a new benchmark for corporate responsibility in the gig economy.
