iPhone 12 and 12 Pro battery test result - 5G drains a lot and should happen to any 5G phones too

As more and more information about the iPhone 12 series is being released, we came across some interesting news about its battery life when connected to 5G. The battery test was done by Tomsguide.com and the results are mixed, which can also imply that other 5G smartphones could experience the same when 5G becomes mainstream in the future.

To set up a proper battery test, the folks took the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro and adjusted the screen brightness at 150 nits, as well as launching a new website every 30 seconds and they were using AT7T's 5G network. After 8 hours and 25 minutes, the iPhone 12's battery became flat whereas the latter got 9 hours and 6 minutes.

If compared to an iPhone 11 in a 4G test, it can last up to 11 hours and 16 minutes. Not surprisingly, the iPhone 12 lasted longer in 4G connectivity but only for 10 hours and 23 minutes. However, the iPhone 12 Pro can last longer than the iPhone 11 Pro by an hour (11h24m vs 10h24m) despite having a slightly smaller battery. With this, we think the iPhone 12 Pro Max could potentially last longer than its predecessor too.

Just for fun, the guys also threw in the Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, Google Pixel 5 and the OnePlus 8T as well. All these models have a higher refresh rate of up to 120Hz (and 90Hz for the Pixel), which did better than the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro on 5G connectivity + 60Hz refresh rate. However, turning on the 120Hz totally drained the battery life faster for the Galaxy S20 series, while the OnePlus 8T and Pixel 5 weren't so bad.

We often remind our readers that iOS optimize the apps differently, hence the lesser specs figures than Android. However, 5G connectivity is another story as it relies on internet signal strength more. Since 5G is still pretty much in a development stage, it's probably best to use 4G LTE for now. Until 5G becomes stable and mainstream which is a LONG TIME, there will be better smartphones to handle it. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
