iPhone 16 prototypes leaks reveal different camera layouts and new buttons

For the past three generations since the iPhone 13 series, Apple has been using the same rear camera design but the iPhone 16 series may change that. According to MacRumors.com, the next-gen iPhone could modify the camera layout once again as well as the buttons.

MacRumors claimed that they have early iPhone 16 pre-production designs so it's best to take it with a pinch of salt, as pre-production designs have a 50-50 chance to be finalised. Based on the early designs, the three rendered images you see below are mockups, all with an action button but different kinds of volume buttons. Also, the black iPhone has an extra capture button.

As for the camera design, the iPhone 16 may go back vertically. This could also have two outcomes, which are either having each sensor stand out on its own like the iPhone 12 or have a pill-shaped camera set like the iPhone X. Initially, there was a Bongo project for the iPhone 15 series which included a unified volume button with haptic feedback but cancelled due to technical issues. Will it make it back to the iPhone 16? Unlikely until Apple solves it.

The Action Button may become larger and revamped on the iPhone 16. Dubbed Project Atlas, Apple is said to be experimenting with changing the mechanical Action Button to a capacitive type. Looking at the early designs, Apple seems to be favouring a capacitive Action Button and it may apply to the aforementioned Capture Button too.

Like the Dynamic Island appearing on all the iPhone 15 models, we won't be surprised if all iPhone 16 models are equipped with a new revamped Action Button. We think there's a good chance that the Capture button will be exclusive to the pro variants too. It's very early to speculate but these are still interesting findings. Until then, let's just wait and see.
