As teased by Apple CEO Tim Cook, the newest member has joined the iPhone 16 series but it was not the iPhone SE 4. Instead, what we got is the iPhone 16e as a new budget device, starting from RM2,999. Here's everything you need to know.

To kick off, the iPhone 16e comes in three memory variants - 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. Comparing it to the standard iPhone 16, both are very similar in size except that the iPhone 16e is slightly lighter and shorter, even though it has the same 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display. The home button is really gone and is replaced by the Face ID authentication function.

The iPhone 16e is powered by the same A18 chipset, so it's also capable of running Apple Intelligence as well. On the back, it is only a single camera lens but sporting a 2-in-1 48MP camera system. It has OIS, can switch between 24MP (default) and 48MP (super-high resolution), and enables a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. Additionally, it can shoot a 4K Dolby Vision video recording up to 60 FPS, same applies to the 12MP front camera.

It's worth noting that even though the iPhone 16e uses a USB C port for charging, it is only a USB v2, the same as the standard iPhone 16. The USB C charging cable is provided inside the box and nothing else. Below are the official prices:

  • 128GB - RM 2,999
  • 256GB - RM 3,499
  • 512GB - RM 4,499

Coming in black and white, the iPhone 16e pre-order will begin on 21 February 2025 (9 PM) and will be available on 28 February 2025 across the nation. For more information, you can visit Apple Malaysia's website here to check it out.
