iPhone users can finally shoot videos and play audio at the same time with iOS 18

If you’re an iPhone user, you’ve probably noticed how if you’re trying to shoot a video while playing audio via other apps in the background, the audio will stop playing once you launch the video camera. Well, this is about to end soon as the limitation has been removed in iOS 18.

According to 9to5Mac which noticed this change in the Beta version of the new iOS software, audio playback will no longer stop once you record a video. Specifically, iOS 18 will now allow audio playback, whether it be music, podcast or other audio sources while you shoot a video.

This is definitely a welcome change, as previously, the only way to record a video without stopping audio is to long-press the shutter in the camera app rather than changing to video shooting mode. However, the video quality for this trick is inferior to the dedicated video shooting mode.
