realme 14 Pro 5G: Performance and style beyond its price tag

The one item many people would always carry these days is a smartphone. It's the one device always in reach, allowing us to do many things with a few taps of our fingers. As such, a smartphone should have good performance and features, as well as style and personality.

This isn't as easy as it sounds, as the mid-range smartphone segment is ultra-competitive. Having said that, the device we would like to highlight today is the realme 14 Pro 5G. Aspiring to be a mid-range performance Benchmark, the realme 14 Pro 5G delivers what many look for in a mid-range device - capable gaming, decent photography quality, and a good design. So, what exactly can it do? Here's a quick overview of what to expect.

Gorgeous design

realme 14 5G

Although limited to the Pearl White variant, the realme 14 Pro 5G can change colours under low temperatures. Using an innovative thermochromic fusion fibre, the phone's back cover can change from pearl white to a vibrant blue colour when exposed to temperatures below 16°C. Once the temperature goes back out, the phone reverts back to pearl white. It's definitely one of the coolest features of this phone.

If you prefer something more modest, the realme 14 Pro 5G also comes in a vegan suede leather variant. It's realme's first phone with a bio-based suede leather back, which provides a skin-friendly touch and has a comfortable texture. The Vegan Suede Leather is also durable, resistant to wear, easy to keep clean, and provides enhanced grip. It's a stylish and functional variant suitable for everyday outdoor use. Both variants offer industry's best IP69/68/66 dust and water resistance protection.

Performance with power efficiency

Mind you, this phone is more than just about good looks. The realme 14 Pro 5G also offers excellent specs for a mid-range device, such as a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy chipset. Manufactured using an advanced 4nm process, the Dimensity 7300 Energy delivers great performance with scores of over 750k in AnTuTu benchmarks. It can also hit 120fps in MLBB or Honor of Kings and 90fps in FreeFire, which are popular mobile games in Malaysia.

If that's not enough, 12GB of RAM and up to 14GB of Dynamic RAM help run multiple apps simultaneously. You won't feel any loading or lag when switching apps, which is great when switching between MLBB and Instagram, copy-pasting or sharing files between different apps. Within its chassis, the realme 14 Pro 5G also has a 6000mm² 3D VC Cooling System – the largest cooling area in the segment – to ensure that performance remains stable even with long hours of use.

Great camera system

Besides overall performance, the realme 14 Pro 5G has a powerful camera for high-quality photos. It comes with a Sony IMX882 50MP main camera that has a large 1/2" sensor, allowing users to capture photos with greater clarity in different lighting conditions. Thanks to optical image stabilisation (OIS), captured photos won't look blurry even if you have slightly shaky hands.

A highlight of the realme 14 Pro 5G's camera module is the MagicGlow Triple Flash system, an industry-first triple flash LED setup for professional-level light fill. The MagicGlow Triple Flash system can automatically adjust colour temperature, making skin tones look natural regardless of the lighting condition. It also allows users to manually adjust the flash brightness with five adjustable brightness levels (from Warmness to Brightness) and a super brightness mode.

On the camera app side, the realme 14 Pro 5G offers many useful functions like Underwater Mode. This feature is particularly interesting, as it lets users record 60-minute videos underwater at depths of up to 1.5 metres. Livephoto is another handy feature that records a video while you take a photo, resulting in an image with a dynamic effect. It also comes with AI Best Face that detects and "opens" any closed eyes in group photos, and AI Eraser 2.0 to effortlessly erase unwanted objects from the photos.

Besides the above, the realme 14 Pro 5G has many camera features of particular interest. Want to take a long-range shot but don't want it to look blurry? AI Telephoto Super-resolution will fix that for you. Thanks to the AI Ultra Clarity 2.0 feature, the realme 14 Pro 5G can reduce the blur or sharpen pictures taken on the telephoto camera. The result is increased detail in such photos, allowing you to better capture subjects at a distance.

If you want to take long-range portrait photos, that's okay too. With triple-flash on, you can take 2x zoom photos of subjects a few metres away and get very sharp close-up shots. Below are some samples of photos that were captured using the realme 14 Pro 5G.

Also noteworthy is the Night mode and Night portrait. When you want to snap a photo of the city at night, select Night mode and use 2x zoom for some nice telephoto night views. In cities with beautiful night lights, the effect can be breathtaking. For night portrait photography, the triple-flash system would help you capture brighter photos with more natural colours. Of course, the realme 14 Pro 5G also has other interesting camera features like AI Snap mode.

Lasting battery

Lastly, the realme 14 Pro 5G features a large 6000mAh Titan battery. It delivers ultra-long endurance, so you can play mobile games like MLBB for 10 hours or watch videos for up to 21 hours. The MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy processor also greatly enhances battery performance by demanding lower power consumption. Despite the large battery, the phone is super slim at only 7.55mm thick and weighs just 181.5g. And when the battery is running low, the 45W SuperVOOC Charging will recharge it in no time.

A worthwhile mid-range

Price from RM1,499, the realme 14 Pro 5G offers a lot of value. Besides the above, the phone features Hi-Res Audio dual speakers, a 16MP selfie camera, a 6.77-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, and IP66/IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance. It runs on the latest Android 15-based realme UI 6.0, so you can use systems like Gemini AI.

There is also the realme 14 5G, which has a more affordable RM1,199 starting price tag. It has a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset, a 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, and a 50MP main camera too.
