WhatsApp just announced that it’s time to reserve your WhatsApp Username, which will then be locked-in for your use when the feature is launched. You can use the same username as your Instagram while businesses or creators Facebook and Instagram usernames are reserved. Once it’s been launched the first thing people will see on WhatsApp will be the username that you have claimed.

Right on cue, Samsung Malaysia recently sent out an RM700 e-voucher to get their latest foldables, signaling that the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked could be just around the corner. With last year's unpacked happening in July, we expect this year’s to showcase the next Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8, Galaxy Watch 9, maybe even a Galaxy Z Fold Wide and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 too. No exact Malaysia release dates or pricing details yet though.

Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched the Malaysia Digital Blueprint 2030 (MD2030) today, a national plan to transition the country from a technology consumer into a creator of local innovations. Led by the Ministry of Digital, the initiative aims to establish an "AI Nation" by 2030, targeting a 30% digital economy contribution to GDP, 500,000 high-value tech jobs, RM4.5 billion in public sector savings, and 95% of government services online.

According to BERNAMA and Astro Awani, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) successfully detected and seized 72 server units containing advanced AI chips with an estimated value of around RM52.9 million, before they were re-exported to an unspecified Asian country. This shows that the AI chips were not for use here, but rather, Malaysia was only used as a temporary stopover.

Google has reportedly restricted Meta’s access to its Gemini model due to severe computing capacity limitations. Informed of the constraints around March 2026, Meta is now unable to purchase or access the full capacity it requires, indirectly bottlenecking its internal development. The shortage has forced Meta to instruct employees to conserve and use AI tokens more efficiently. Furthermore, this capacity crunch isn't isolated to Meta; several other major Google customers are reportedly facing similar AI resource limitations.

Starting from 15 June 2026, Netflix is now requiring that each profile has their own individual emails. Previously, 1 email covered 5 profiles, but users in the US have been reporting that each profile now needs an individual email. The roll-out seems to be gradual though, with some users in the US getting this requirement first, but we expect Malaysians to also get a notice from Netflix about it soon too.

The LRT3 Shah Alam line recently got announced officially and you can ride all 20 stations from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia for free for 1 month. Ending on 31 July 2026, the line will have 6 stations that you can park your car for free at. While the FREE ride offer is open to everyone, RapidKL-on-Demand vans will still charge RM2 and you will have to use a compatible TnG card to get through.
