Samsung have just announced 4 new covers for the Samsung Galaxy S5 with wireless charging capabilities. These will include the standar replacement backplate and an S-View flip cover. Both will come in black or white but there is only pricing for the standard backplate at $30 (RM98) for now. All of the cases will have the gasket which makes the Galaxy S5 water resistant and will be compatible with Qi based chargers. The S-View flip cover looks to have an artificial leather front but the back is the same dotted plastic.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is not only waterproof and dustproof, it is also a lot tougher than it's predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S4. Wanting to see how much tougher the Galaxy S5 is, TechSmartt took both smartphones for a drop test. Going a bit more than the usual head and waist heights, they even did a drop test at about 10 feet, all of which the Galaxy S5 did very well with. In the end, they even drove over it with an SUV. While Lenovo may have bought Motorola, the Project Ara modular smartphone remained at Google. Since it was based off of the Phonebloks concept, Phonebloks recently checked up on the Project Ara team to see how far they were going. The visit was documented into the video below which more or less shows that Project Ara is on track to becoming a working modular smartphone. Still no news when that might become a reality but Google has said that the entry-level unit should be priced not more than $50 (RM164), and that developers get the kit for free. The whole Project Ara looks to be quite thorough, right down to a user-friendly interface for non-techies to make their own pick and place modular smartphone, so check out the video in this article.

Nokia has officially announced the Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 smartphones. Targeting the more affordable entry-level to midrange markets the Lumia 630 will offer 3G connectivity and both single-SIM and dual-SIM versions while the Lumia 635 will only offer a single-SIM version but offer 4G LTE connectivity. Both look nearly the same with the now standard Nokia Lumia colourful polycarbonate backside and black front. Other tech specs and features are more or less identical though as they all include:

• 512MB RAM
• 8GB storage + up to 128GB microSD
• 4.5-inch display (IPS, 854 x 480 pixel resolution)
• 5MP rear camera
• supports 3G (HSPA+, 21Mbps / HSPA+, 42Mbps) / 4G LTE (100Mbps)
• 1830 mAh battery
• Black, bright green, bright orange, bright yellow, white

A device going by the model of SM-G906S has appeared on the GFXBench website bearing the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and beating quite a few graphics scores. Initially appearing with a hidden info tab, the tech specs on the device are listed to include a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, Adreno 420 graphics, 3GB RAM, a 5.2-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution and features a 16MP rear camera. The model numbering is fairly close to that of the Samsung Galaxy S5 which could mean a more powerful Galaxy S5 version coming out later (which Samsung did do with their Samsung Galaxy S4 when they came out with the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE+). Then again, it could be an entirely different smartphone as rumours of a more premium Samsung Galaxy F smartphone have been making the rounds as well.

We've already seen leaked tech specs on paper of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom but now there is a picture of it and a possible name as well. Going as the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom, this Samsung Galaxy S5 variant will apparently have an artificial leather backside. As promised, the Zoom lens isn't as prominent (read, sticking out) as before but it is a bit difficult to judge how much based on the angle of the image. Tech specs for the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom are expected to start with a 1.6GHz quad-core processor or a 1.3GHz Samsung Exynos 5 Hexa processor with ARM Mali T624 graphics, a 4.8-inch display, 2GB RAM and Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat. The camera sensor will be 20MP and come with 10x optical zoom and Xenon flash. Still no news on pricing or Malaysia release dates but with the image already leaked we're expecting very soon, or at least within Q2 of 2014.

The Red Dot Design Award highlights great design combining innovation, functionality, egonomics and quality amongst others, so it comes as no surprise that ASUS recently won it for their new ZenFone range of smartphones. The ASUS ZenFone range of smartphones consists of the ASUS ZenFone 4, ASUS ZenFone 5 and ASUS ZenFone 6, with all of them utilizing the same ergonomic design and solid build quality. The screens are well-protected with Corning's Gorilla Glass 4 while the ASUS ZenUI brings Android 4.3 based energy efficiency together with smooth working functionality. We're all set for the upcoming regional release of the ASUS ZenFone series in the middle of April 2014 so stay posted for more details on the ASUS ZenFone range of smartphones.

The Motorola Moto X could soon be joining the Motorola Moto G here in Malaysia as local retailers have indicated that the smartphone could be on sale by the end of April 2014. Other local retailers have also revealed a pre-order price of RM1399, which is certainly tempting for a smartphone that is always listening to you. While the pricing may be a bit off from the overseas $299 (RM956) off contract price we're hoping that it at least comes with Moto Maker or some form of customization to make up for the price increase (hopefully wooden backplates). Tech specs for the Moto X remain the same and include:

Just a short while ago, quite a lot of people were mighty interested in the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo, not only because it would have a Hexa-core processor but also because it was meant to be a more affordable version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phablet. Thankfully, this is true for Malaysia as the Galaxy Note 3 Neo is priced at RM1699. Utilizing the features and tech specs of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 but using the Galaxy Note 3 design, the device has 3G HSPA+ connectivity, and updated 8MP rear camera, 2GB of RAM and a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution.
