The Vivo Xshot features extreme Hi-Fi and video capture but Vivo may already be working on a new model with upgraded camera features, including an improved autofocus function to enhance user’s photo capturing experience. This upgrade may also introduce a new phase detection system. Phase detection is primarily used in DSLR cameras and is presently in the Apple iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, LG G3 andSamsung Galaxy S5. Quick autofocus ability gives the phone an edge over other models, especially where capture speed is priority. Initial testing shows that the phone may be 0.09 seconds or 30% faster than the iPhone 6. The existing Xshot features a 13MP camera and the successor phone may even employ an upgraded 20MP camera. Rumour has it that Vivo may roll out its next model as early as May 2015. It remains to be seen if the new phone features the above upgrades, but if it does, it is welcome news. There is no news on Malaysia release dates and Malaysia pricing for the new model yet.

While Malaysia didn't get the ASUS ZenWatch, we can still hope for an ASUS wearable in the near future as ASUS have just announced the ASUS VivoWatch smartwatch. Featuring a built-in heart-rate monitor, a 10 day battery life and a stainless steel frame design, the VivoWatch comes in black or white and looks to be IP67 dust and water resistant. However, it does not run Android Wear and there are still no pricing details or Malaysia release dates just yet but it is expected to be priced from around $158 (RM586) which would be quite attractive all things considered.

Even the back will be protected by the same glass. There will be a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front shooter. The measurements of the device will be 143.6 x 71.1 x 6.67 mm. The Vivo X5 Max has officially replaced the Oppo R5 as the slimmest phone in the market. The device which was announced on 10 December 2014 features a 4.75mm thin profile. In comparison, the Oppo R5 was .10mm thicker at 4.85mm. In spite of the ultra-thin profile, the new Vivo flagship comes with a MicroSD card slot as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack. The previous slimmest phone title holder, Oppo R5 had to let go of these two slots to slim down the size. According to the company, this impressive feat was accomplished by making the internal components thinner than traditional smartphones. The motherboard inside the X5 Max measures just 1.7mm in thickness while the screen assembly and the speaker box measure 1.36mm and 2.45mm. The device is powered by a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor. It comes with 2GB RAM onboard along with 16GB memory which is expandable. On the front, the phone has a 5.5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display along with a 5MP secondary camera on top. At the back, there is a 13MP camera. The Vivo X5 Max runs on Android 4.4.4 Kitkat with Funtouch 2.0 UI on top. While Vivo has not yet revealed any information about Malaysia release dates or pricing, the device should go on sale in China starting 22 December 2014 for RMB2998 (RM1700).

Barely a few days after OPPO is supposedly working on a 4mm thin smartphone and rumours have come up that Vivo could be working on a 3.8mm thin smartphone too. This comes from two teaser images of what appears to be a metal-frame Vivo smartphone, which is then compared against an Apple iPhone 5 or iPhone 5S both of which measure 7.6mm thin. There is no news on what sort of tech specs or features such a thin device could pack, but it should be technically possible. Also no news about a Malaysia release date or pricing but with Vivo officially available in Malaysia it could just be a matter of time. As always, do take such rumours with a pinch of salt, but we can't help but ask; when is a thin smartphone too thin?
