    The Malaysian government will wait on the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission's report, before allowing Huawei to build their 5G infrastructure in Malaysia. Based on TheStar.com.my, the delay is due to various security concerns involving Huawei globally, including allegations of cyberspying, international scandals and so on. Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo wants to play it safe, to ensure that the system is secure before rolling out.

    During their recent global analyst summit in Shenzhen, Huawei showed a slide teasing their first Huawei 5G mobile hotspot set for Q2 of 2019. They also revealed what could be their first 5G smartphone, which is presumed to be the Huawei Mate 30 in the second half of 2019 which also indicates when Malaysia and other countries could start seeing the full implementation of 5G networks.

    Today, Celcom Axiata Berhad and Ericsson have showcased their first ever 5G network trial in Malaysia, as well as the first 5G trial conducted on the 28GHz band in South East Asia. This was witnessed by Yang Berhormat Dato' Jailani Johari, Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia today, at Celcom's headquarters.
