Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has revealed that the 5G network coverage in the state of Selangor has reached 95.9 per cent as of December 2023. Lauding the coverage percentage as excellent, Fahmi however said that 5G’s advantages have yet to be utilised fully in the state.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has announced that the government is aiming to ensure not less than 85% of rural areas get 5G coverage by the end of 2024. Accordingly, a target of at least 50% coverage for rural areas has been set for mid-2024.

The Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) has revealed that while the 5G coverage in Malaysia is now at 66.8%, only 4.2% of the population is using the network.
