  • ASUS ZenFone 5 Lite A502CG announced with 1GB RAM and 5-inch 540 x 960 display

    ASUS ZenFone 5 Lite A502CG announced with 1GB RAM and 5-inch 540 x 960 display

It appears that ASUS are filling out the niches in it's ZenFone smartphone range with the announcement of the ASUS ZenFone 5 Lite A502CG. Announced in the Philippines for 5595 PHP (RM417) the ZenFone 5 Lite keeps the same balanced design but cuts down on some of the features. These include a 5-inch display with 540 x 960 pixel resolution, a 0.3MP front camera, 1.2GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2520 processor and 1GB of RAM. Other tech specs remain mostly the same with an 8MP rear camera with LED flash, support for dual-SIM, WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth and a GPS. Surprisingly, the battery gets an increase to 2500 mAh, perhaps in response to all the low battery life complaints. No Malaysia release dates or pricing available just yet but we expect it to come next month if not early next year, along with all the other new ZenFone smartphones.

ASUS ZenFone 5 LTE Review - A more premium ASUS ZenFone 5 with 4G LTE

Versatile, powerful and affordably priced, the ASUS ZenFone 5 (A501CG) is currently one of the most well-balanced and versatile smartphones in the Malaysian market. So, what more could you ask from ASUS? 4G LTE? A non-Intel processor? This is exactly what ASUS hope to answer with the release of the ASUS ZenFone 5 LTE smartphone. While the ZenFone 5 LTE bears practically the same design how does it perform compared to it's 3G Intel powered smartphone sibling? • Rumours: ASUS ZenFone and PadFone S getting Android 5.0 in April 2015

Rumours: ASUS ZenFone and PadFone S getting Android 5.0 in April 2015

With the announcement of Android 5.0 Lollipop, practically every Android user is asking, will my phone get that update? Well, ASUS ZenFone smartphone users and those who are going to get the ASUS PadFone S superphone will definitely get it sometime in April 2015, at least according to rumours in Taiwan. You may be asking why it is going to take such a long time, but we're thinking that this is due to having update all the ASUS ZenUI to fit the Android 5.0 Material Design. Hopefully, ASUS will also include all the latest camera modes like slow motion video recording or maybe a panorama shot for the front camera, but only time will tell. As usual of such rumours, do take this with a pinch of salt, but since most ASUS ZenFone smartphones here in Malaysia have already received their Android 4.4 KitKat updates, we assume ASUS will stay on track and deliver the next Android update too.

  • Rumours: ASUS Malaysia to open up online store in November 2014?

Rumours: ASUS Malaysia to open up online store in November 2014?

Quite a few smartphone manufacturers here in Malaysia have had problems with local distributors either in jacking up prices or even not selling according to the promotion at hand. Many have sought to solve this by offering their own online store but this too has had problems with many of them offering much-wanted smartphones or devices in batches. While this may help raise the hype, quite a few users end up thinking it is a publicity stunt or getting disgruntled with the brand and online service. It seems that ASUS Malaysia may soon be opening up their own online store sometime in November 2014 in part to help users get products like the ASUS ZenFone smartphones and ASUS Fonepad tablets at the price offered. Our anonymous tipster says that they won't be selling in batches like other official online stores but we'll hopefully find out more in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more information but as always with such rumours do take this with a pinch of salt.

    Thanks anonymous tipster!

  • ASUS Japan could be coming out with new ZenFone and ZenWatch

ASUS Japan could be coming out with new ZenFone and ZenWatch

We could soon see new ASUS ZenFone smartphones and a new ZenWatch in the next 4 to 5 days as ASUS Japan has revealed a countdown timer page with teaser images of a ZenFone and a ZenWatch. While this could just be a local Japan release for the ZenWatch it seems unlikely for an existing ZenFone since most of them have already been released. There are still no Malaysia release dates or pricing for the ASUS ZenWatch smartwatch or for a new ZenFone smartphone just yet though. For Malaysia, ASUS have revealed the ZenFone 4ZenFone 5ZenFone 6, a ZenFone 4 with a 4.5-inch screen and the ZenFone 5 LTE. Is it the ZenFone 5 with a 5.5-inch display? The teaser image certainly seems so, as it looks too thin to be a ZenFone 4 and not wide enough to be ZenFone 6. Personally, we're still waiting for a ZenFone 6 LTE but it could just as likely be a refresh of the Intel Atom processors being used on the ZenFone smartphones. Stay tuned for more developments as the countdown time indicates we'll find out more on 28 November 2014.

  • ASUS ZenFone 5 LTE unboxing video

ASUS ZenFone 5 LTE unboxing video

Almost all of the ASUS ZenFone smartphones offer 3G connectivity, which for most Malaysians is more than enough. However, for those looking for a faster connection, ASUS Malaysia have come out with the ASUS ZenFone 5 LTE or A500KL. Featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor that supports 4G LTE connectivity, the ZenFone 5 LTE offers nearly all the same tech specs and features as the 3G ZenFone 5 while maintening the same look and feel as the original. ASUS Malaysia were kind enough to provide us with a review unit for an unboxing video which you can see in this article.

  • Rumours: 5.5-inch display ASUS ZenFone coming soon?

Rumours: 5.5-inch display ASUS ZenFone coming soon?

ASUS are doing quite well with their new ZenFone range of smartphones and seem to be filling up every niche they can with the recent introduction of the ASUS ZenFone 5 LTE (A500KL) and 4.5-inch display ASUS ZenFone 4 (A450CG). Now, rumours are saying that a 5.5-inch display ZenFone could be coming, perhaps to be called the ASUS ZenFone 5 A550CG? Rumours indicate that it would come with the next processor refresh for the ASUS ZenFone range, perhaps powered by Intel SoFIA processors. We expect some tech specs to remain the same such as 2GB of RAM, 16GB storage, 4.5-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera and 2110 mAh battery. No Malaysia release dates or pricing yet but rumours indicate that it could come during CES 2015. Right now, ASUS seem to be filling up the niches according to screen size and connectivity, but so far they have no Selfie centric offerings just yet. An ASUS ZenFone smartphone with a 5MP front camera doesn't sound too far fetched though but with all of these rumours, do remember to take them with a pinch of salt.

  • Intel #GoFaster shows off what is coming for Intel-powered tablets and smartphones

Intel #GoFaster shows off what is coming for Intel-powered tablets and smartphones

Intel Malaysia recently held a #GoFaster event to showcase their plans and outlook for tablet and smartphone processors in 2014 to 2015. George Chacko, Regional Director of Tablet Product Marketing at Intel APAC was on hand to provide this information in detail. While nothing new was really revealed, it did show everything Intel has planned for the rest of the year and next year. These Intel technologies and systems include 64-bit processors, Intel 4G LTE Cat6 connectivity, the upcoming 14nm Cherry Trail processors and the SoFIA integrated processors. Both the Cherry Trail and SoFIA processors are set for 2015 but it should bring about, faster, more connected and more affordable devices in the new year. Other notable technologies on the way to Intel powered tablets and smartphones include wireless charging, eye scanning biometrics and RealSense cameras. While there aren't any specific Malaysia release dates or pricing for upcoming Intel powered tablets and smartphones, Intel are working closely with all the big names including ASUS, Lenovo, Acer and much more. For those not in the know:

    • Cherry Trail is the next architecture for Intel mobile processors which will use a 14nm fabrication process. The current architecture uses a 22nm process, so with the smaller fabrication, Intel can pack in more for better graphics and better energy efficient processors.
    • SoFIA processors will integrate 3G and 4G LTE Cat6 connectivity into the processor itself, making it simpler to design and make a connected tablet or smartphone while also cutting costs. It should also help make connectivity on the go faster.
    • RealSense cameras not only capture images they also capture depth like a real human eye allowing it to accurately measure what it sees. This set for use in better gesture controls but could also be useful in augmented reality as well.
