This is due to the fact that Google recently discovered that some of the ads use up much more battery and bandwidth than usual, which can be a problem especially for those who signed up with telco that provides very limited internet data.

Based on source code found by XDA Developers, it seems that Google plans to introduce an option for viewers to watch ads in order to unlock movies. While we have no exact numbers on how many movies can be unlocked, the source code hints that there could be several hundreds of movies available as soon as the feature goes live.
