Apple has slashed the prices of its iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models in Malaysia, with the iPhone 16 now RM400 cheaper and the iPhone 16 Pro dropping by RM200.

But what could be the reasons behind this significant price drop? What could happen because of it?

Apple has recently removed the restriction placed on the iPhone 12 series when charging with a Qi2 wireless charger which limited charging to only 7.5W rather than the full 15W. This is after the rolling out of iOS 17.4, which had already removed the restrictions on the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series in December last year.

Brazil and Apple haven’t been getting along recently as the country’s regulators are not too pleased with the latter’s decision to not include power adapters with the iPhone. After being fined ~RM89 million, Apple still failed to comply with Brazil’s requirement and now, the nation’s Federal District-based consumer protection regulator has seized iPhones from retail stores in the country.

A Brazilian court has fined Apple BRL100 million or ~RM89 million in “social damages” for its continued practice of selling iPhones without a charger in the country. The tech giant was slapped with the fine by a Sao Paulo state court, which stressed that Apple must offer battery chargers with iPhones that are sold in Brazil.

A judge in Brazil has ordered Apple to compensate ~RM4609 to a customer in Goiânia who recently purchased an iPhone. The Brazilian court found that Apple violated consumer law for the practice, which began with the iPhone 12.

Apple mentioned that the aforementioned issue is only affecting a small percentage of both the iPhones mentioned above while the iPhone 12 and mini and Pro Max does not seem to exhibit such issue.
