  • Rumours: Apple iPhone 6 coming with 8MP rear camera and f/2.0 aperture

Rumours: Apple iPhone 6 coming with 8MP rear camera and f/2.0 aperture

A fairly realistic rumour has cropped up about the Apple iPhone 6, which should be announced in a couple more months which say that Apple will probably keep the 8MP rear camera it already has but change the sensor aperture to f/2.0. Previously the camera sensor on the Apple iPhone 5S was set at f/2.2 while the Apple iPhone 5 had an f/2.4 aperture. The change for the Apple iPhone 5S resulted in more light coming in to the sensor and improving low light shots. A change to f/2.0 aperture would mean even better low-light performance. Other rumours indicate that the camera would have a 6p sapphire lens with the CMOS sensor expected to be manufactured by Sony. This rumour certainly sounds like something Apple would do, despite so many users asking for a 13MP rear camera upgrade. However, since it is a rumour still, do remember to take it with a good grain of salt, as a rumour is still a rumour until proven.

  • Larger 5.5-inch and 4.7-inch Apple iPhone 6 rendered in this concept video

Larger 5.5-inch and 4.7-inch Apple iPhone 6 rendered in this concept video

Based on current reports and rumours, Apple could be making or looking into a larger screen size for the Apple iPhone 6. These rumours point towards a 4.7-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution and a 5.5-inch display with 1280 x 2272 pixel resolution. While there aren't any other tech specs, the displays will probably be made using IGZO technology which has better colours and energy efficiency. Based on these reports, the Concepts iPhone team of Enrico Penello and Ran Avni has come up with a concept video looking at how a larger screen could appear with the Apple iPhone 6. While the main design remains the same, the screen size is much larger and could offer Apple more opportunities in the larger screen smartphone market. However, Apple are also more likely to retain the 4-inch standard display form factor rather than replace it. Check out the video in the article for yourself.

  • Rumours: Apple iPhone 6 tech specs leaked - 10MP+ f/1.8 aperture camera + interchangeable resin lens

Rumours: Apple iPhone 6 tech specs leaked - 10MP+ f/1.8 aperture camera + interchangeable resin lens

While we think it is still a bit premature to speculate on Apple iPhone 6 tech specs, this hasn't stopped the Apple iPhone 6 rumours from coming. This batch of rumours comes from an online retailer saying that it was from checking out Apple's supply chain. These tech specs and features include a 10MP+ camera with f/1.8 aperture. The rumour also says that the camera will have interchangeable resin lenses which were not only covered in a recent Apple iPhone patent but also actually exist already in the form of ARTON resin lenses. It seems plausible that we could see the interchangeable resin lenses then, but it seems unlikely that they'll just offer a 10MP camera as the next model after 8MP camera sensors tend to be 13MP and above. That being said, take this rumour with a good amount of salt as Apple tends to be very conservative when it comes to hardware upgrades.

  • Rumours: Wall Street analyst says Apple iPhone 6 will use 4.8-inch screen

Rumours: Wall Street analyst says Apple iPhone 6 will use 4.8-inch screen

Amidst rumours that Apple is testing 4.7-inch and larger screens for the Apple iPhone 6, one Wall Street analyst thinks Apple have finally made a decision. According to said analyst, Timothy Arcuri, Apple will make the Apple iPhone 6 with a 4.8-inch screen. He says he reached this conclusion based on Apple's supply chain. This matches with other rumours which said that the iPhone 6 would indeed go for a larger screen but not go as big as 5 inches. Arcuri goes on to say that the iPhone 6 will offer tech specs that include the latest WiFi which is 802.11ac. While the operating system will still likely be iOS 7, the software will be updated to include integration with iBeacon, Passbook and more TouchID. He also expects more 64-bit features asides from the TouchID fingerprint scanner. These analysts predict the Apple iPhone 6 coming in June with a possible 13-inch Apple iPad expected in late 2014.

  • Rumours: Apple iPhone phablet coming in May 2014?

Rumours: Apple iPhone phablet coming in May 2014?

The giant rumour mill continues, this time with a rumour about the next Apple iPhone, which many are saying could be coming in 4.7-inches or going phablet-sized with a 5.7-inch display. Recent reports have come up saying that Apple may announce these new iPhone models in May 2014 with a Malaysia release date expected later in the year (probably Q3). Other tech specs and features that may come with the new models include rumours that they will be using the same A7 processor in the Apple iPhone 5S but no news if these processors will be tweaked or overclocked or just the same old 1.3GHz. Other rumours indicate that these larger sized Apple phones could be a completely new range rather than the next version of the Apple iPhone, which would be iPhone 6. As always, do take this rumour with a pinch of salt, as the jump in display size is rather large for Apple, who are fairly conservative when it comes to a design that isn't broken.

  • Rumours: Apple iPhone 6 and 12.9-inch iPad coming in May 2014 and October 2013

Rumours: Apple iPhone 6 and 12.9-inch iPad coming in May 2014 and October 2013

While we've yet to hear any concrete reports on the rumoured Apple iPhone 6 and possible 12.9-inch Apple iPad, rumours about the release date have surfaced quite regularly. Just like before, the latest release date rumours come from the supply chain or the manufacturers making the parts of these upcoming Apple devices. According to these sources, the Apple iPhone 6 could be coming in May 2014 with tech specs that include a 20nm 64-bit processor, beating the previous 28nm fabrication process of the Apple A7 processor. No news on naming for the processor yet, but it could just as well be an A7X or overclocked version of the previous processor. Others are saying the new iPhone could also bump the screen size up to 4.7-inches or 5.5-inches but these larger sized models are rumoured for Q3 of 2014. The supposedly larger 12.9-inch display Apple iPad version supposedly known as the iPad Pro may be released in October 2014 and is headed for select business and educational markets. As always do take this rumour with a pinch of salt.

  • Lytro-like camera appears in Apple patent, refocusing coming to iPhone 6?

Lytro-like camera appears in Apple patent, refocusing coming to iPhone 6?

Seemingly catching up with the rest of the refocusing cameraphone crowd, Apple have recently filed a patent for a camera technology which allows Lytro-like effects. Similar to the refocusing effect in Nokia's PureView cameras and some Sony Xperia cameraphones, the technology basically allows users to take a shot and then refocus it on any point or object in the picture. The technology in Apple's patent is different from Lytro in that it offers a high-resolution non-refocusable mode along with a low-resolution refocusable mode. While the patent is for a new camera sensor, it also covers an add-on version for any existing camera. This could mean we would see it come out for the Apple iPhone 6 or as an accessory for all camera equipped Apple devices.

  • Rumours: Apple working on 4.7-inch and 5-inch iPhones with curved screens

Rumours: Apple working on 4.7-inch and 5-inch iPhones with curved screens

The rumour mill for Apple's next iPhone model or models has kicked up another interesting tidbit. While there are already rumours that a 5-inch Apple iPhone 6 could be on it's way, a published report was noted as saying that there will be 2 such versions, one with a 4.7-inch screen and the other with a 5-inch screen. What makes this even more interesting is that the screens will be curved downward at the edges. Other tech specs and features include sensors which would detect the amount of pressure for each touch so it could differentiate between a heavy or light touch. The report goes on further to state that the 2 new larger display curved screen Apple iPhones could be released in Q3 of 2014 which matches with this year's iPhone launch. As normal of such rumours, do take this with a pinch of salt, especially if you've been secretly hoping for a larger iPhone.

  • Rumours: Apple iPhone 6 coming in September 2014 with 5-inch 1080p display and ultra narrow bezel

Rumours: Apple iPhone 6 coming in September 2014 with 5-inch 1080p display and ultra narrow bezel

Tech industry analysts just love making predictions, especially about the next smartphone or tablet, so naturally there are a whole bunch of such predictions for the Apple iPhone 6 which is due next year in 2014. These predictions include tech specs and features such as a 5-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution for a 440 ppi pixel density. According to some analysts this screen will be made by LG and the iPhone 6 will be announced in September 2014. Other features include an ultra narrow bezel for a nearly edge-to-edge screen and easier one-handed operation for such a large display. Analysts also expect the Touch ID fingerprint sensor to remain although it remains unclear if Apple will maintain the 64-bit A7 processor.
